Preemie Dress Pattern
by Melbourne Sue
2003
Make this little dress any size you want. The size of the yarn and the size of the hook will determine the size of the finished dress.
This example was worked as follows:
Row 1....ch 65, work hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in next 7 chs, (2 hdc, ch3, 2hdc) in next ch, (this forms the front of the yoke), hdc in next 12 chs, (2hdc, ch3, 2hdc) in next st, (this forms the sleeve of the yoke), hdc in next 16 chs, (2hdc, ch3, 2hdc) in next st, (this forms the back of the yoke), hdc in next 12 chs, (2hdc, ch3, 2hdc) in next st, (this forms the other sleeve of the yoke), hdc in next 8 chs (this forms the other front of the yoke). There will be chains left...just undo them.
ch, 2, turn

Next Rows to desired size( this example has 5 total rows)...hdc to ch 3 space(1st front) , (2hdc, ch3, 2hdc) in ch3 space, hdc to next ch 3 space (1st sleeve area), (2hdc, ch3, 2hdc) in ch3 space, hdc to next ch 3 space (back) , hdc to next ch 3 space(2nd sleeve area) , (2hdc, ch3, 2hdc) in ch3 space, hdc to end (2nd front), ch 2 turn
Ending row of yoke: hdc to next ch3 space(1st front), 1 hdc in ch3 space, skip(sleeve area) to next ch3 sp, hdc in ch3 space and across back section to next ch 3 space, skip(sleeve area) to next ch3 space, hdc in ch3 space and the remaining stitches of 2nd front.

The formula for this yoke is as follows:
1. ch the desired number of stitches for the front (in this expamle it is 8) plus one st to place in the corner (2hdc, ch3, 2hdc)
2. ch the desired number of stitches for the sleeve area (in this example it is 12) plus one st to place in the corner (2hdc, ch3, 2hdc)
NOTE: This section is 1 and 1/2 times the number of stitches use for the front (in this example it is 12) 8+4=12
3. desired number of stitches for the back area(in this example it is 16) plus one st to place in the corner (2hdc, ch3, 2hdc)
NOTE: This section is 2 times the number of stitches as the front (in this example it is 16) 2x8=16
4. desired number of stitches for the sleeve area (in this example it is 12) plus one st to place in the (2hdc, ch3, 2hdc)
5. desired number of stitches for the front (in this expamle it is 8)
Use any pattern desired for the skirt and sleeves, making sure that you add extra stitches while working your pattern so the skirt and sleeves will not be straight. This will depend on how full you want the skirt and sleeves. Use your imagination :o)
